When doctors say "it's all in your head", it may not be so. Learn of the root causes of a low thyroid and it's many symptoms. Getting one's health back may be simpler than one thinks.
“It’s all in your head”, comes back the diagnoses from various endocrinologists. “No low thyroid.” Yet, they can’t explain why their patients seemingly have all the classic symptoms while nothing appears in the lab results. This is the scenario for far more patients that can be imagined. What can a person do then but submit to self-treatment?
Sub-clinical hypothyroidism, (low thyroid, lazy thyroid or insufficient slow thyroid conditions), exists when some patients’ lab results fall within normal ranges; however, they still may experience mild to severe symptoms. Unfortunately, for the most part, doctors remain clueless as to the underlying root cause of the health condition which can be attributed to several, relatively simple to treat conditions. For many, there is hope without hardly any need for prescribed medication or medical treatment.
Some Root Causes of Low Thyroid Conditions May Include All, If Not Most, of the Following Indicators:
Iodine/Iodide Potassium insufficiency
Begin looking to iodine insufficiency in one’s diet. Despite scientific medical evidence to the contrary as to the body’s need for Iodine, most table salts and even sea salts have had the Iodine content removed in recent years. This after having had Iodine added to salt at one time according to health and federal guidelines. Doctors, along with much of the public, are not aware of this and continue to think that table salt has enough iodine to eliminate any thoughts of an existing low thyroid condition. When one finds Iodine it is usually the daily recommended trace amount of 150 mcg.
[in 1924, the Morton Salt company first added iodine to salt after a successful public health campaign. Unfortunately, according to recent 2008 FDA findings, researchers analyzed over 88 clinical samples of Iodized table salt — less than half contained sufficient amounts of Iodine. ]
[Make certain your salt contains amounts of both Iodine/Potassium Iodide. They are not one and the same but are needed to work as "twins" in combating low thyroid insufficiency. Monitor carefully for Iodine over doses but do not neglect to supplement your diet with the mineral. However, bear in mind that not all persons are Iodine deficient.]
Trauma, sleeplessness and exhaustion from stress may lead to Adrenal Insufficiency
The thyroid/adrenal glands also work as "twins". When adrenals are over-loaded and stressed out, a resulting low thyroid condition can easily occur. Generally, women out number men with this condition but anyone with severe chronic stress can end up with over-loaded adrenals. Insufficient sleep, traveling to work, job requirements and perceived possible loss of job, financial difficulties, dieting, personal or relationship conflict, prolonged death or illness of a family member, caffeine/high starch carb dependency and generally, anything can lead to this condition. [Be certain to get sufficient rest. Don’t push it when your body is getting over tired. Take naps as needed -- and take time out for yourself. Keep the Sabbath!]
Improper Eating Habits
Too much caffeine in coffee/tea, un-iodized salt, too many high-starch carbs all contributing to insulin resistance and/or diabetes II. (2) [Get some weight off!]
Classic Symptoms of Low Thyroid
- The Foremost Symptom - no energy level
- Corner tip of the left eye brow is missing
- Blurry vision
- Dry skin/some hair loss
- Skin eruptions/skin rashes
- Dark circles under eyes
- Puffiness around the eyes/eye-lids and face sometimes producing Asiatic features
- Easy weight gain/difficulty in losing weight
- Arthritic-like pains in legs, arms, and back
- Brain fog and/or lack of concentration and memory laspses
- Cold Intolerance - icy cold hands/feet even in summer
- Restless Leg Syndrome/Muscle Pain (3)
It is correct to state that not everyone may have all of the above symptoms manifesting at the same time. However, these are the classic symptoms and are well worth monitoring in oneself when told by physicians, "it's all in your head."
If going to doctors does not bring the help needed to enjoy good health, there are several alternatives beginning with diligent prayer and a focused, concentrated search to get a low thyroid functioning normally again. A serious change of diet/lifestyle will have one on the path to a quick recovery of one's health - both physically and emotionally.

**It is strongly advised to seek the advice of a licensed health practioner before attempting to self-diagnose or self-treat. Not everyone is Iodine deficient nor is every endocrinologist an expert in the complexities of the endocrine system. Choose Wisely.
